” We asked what unlocking summer means to you

-

Phil and Sue Barker Sue says: “I’ve missed just being on the beach, being close to nature, listening to the sea. Staying at home really affected us, because we are so used to being able to travel. It is nice to be able to stop and chat and go to all our usual places.”

Pat Collins: “This is the first time we have seen the sea this year. We have spent two nights in a self-catering place on the moors and have come over the moors and walked a bit of the Cleveland Way and had wonderful views. It has been just absolutely normal.”

Rachel and Chris Marshall: “The biggest thing is getting out here, getting the fresh air, walking the beach, just the whole relaxing atmosphere of it. That’s what we have really missed. We have a big family and you could speak to them on the phone, but it’s not the same. Being able to now see them at some level is really good for us.”

Jack Pattison: “From a mental health point of view, it doesn’t feel good being in the house constantly. It’s nice to be able to be out and have the sense of freedom back. Although a sense of normality is coming back, we have to remember that the pandemic is still there.”
