Scarborough rail services reinstated
As lockdown eases more services will return to the town
More train services are being brought back to Scarborough to help those returning to rail following lockdown. Transpennine Express has announced extended and reinstated services that will run from Monday, May 17.
The 7.34am Scarborough to York service will be extended through to Leeds, arriving at 8.57am.
The 8.34am Scarborough to York service will be reinstated and the 10am York to Scarborough service will begin starting at Leeds again, at 9.27am.
Rail passengers are being advised to plan ahead, check before and follow the latest travel guidance, including wearing a face covering.
Luke Gardner, Permanent Timetable Manager for TransPennine Express, said: “We’ve taken the opportunity to make some changes to our timetable and I’m happy to announce that we will be able to reinstate some further services.”
Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Access for North Yorkshire County Council, said: “North Yorkshire County Council welcomes the additional Scarborough trains through to Leeds and that this is the start of the return to all services running to Leeds and beyond, and we look forward to working with TransPennine Express on further timetable enhancements in the future.”
Meanwhile, LNER is currently running a reduced service on the East Coast Main Line, which runs between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh via York and Newcastle, after trains were withdrawn from service for emergency safety checks.
There have been disruptions since Saturday when urgent inspections started across the country’s train operators’ fleets after hairline cracks were discovered in several trains.
Widespread disruptions on the line are expected to continue this week after 183 Hitachi Class 800 trains used by GWR and LNER were taken out of service for safety inspections.
Passengers are being urged to check their bookings ahead of travelling.
