Ganton’s Venetia the new High Sheriff
One of Ryedale’s best known personalities, Venetia Wrigley, has been appointed the new High Sheriff of North Yorkshire.
Ms Wrigley,of Ganton Hall, runs the family estate at Ganton, and is a prominent charity worker.
A Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, she takes over as High Sheriff from David Kerfoot, the recently retired Chairman of the Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
Among her public life positions,Ms Wrigley is involved with Opera North, Rehabilitation of Prisoners, Middleton Hunt, MacMillan Cancer Care and Elizabeth Finn Care.
The position of High Sheriff, which is held for a year, involves attendance at royal visits in the county and supports the Queen’s High Court Judges when on circuit.
Former High Sheriffs include The Viscountess Downe of Wykeham Abbey and Mark Evans of Brompton by Sawdon.
