Cafe is refused a pavement licence
A Scarborough town centre cafe has been denied permission for its plans to allow its customers to sit outside to enjoy their coffees.
North Room Ltd had submitted the pavement licence request to Scarborough Council for Greensmith & Thackwray in St Nicholas Street.
Following a public consultation Scarborough Council has now confirmed that the application has been refused.
No reason has been given.
Meanwhile, a Scarborough restaurant has been given permission to have outside seating in order to serve its customers.
Relish Kitchen and Coffee in Waterhouse Lane made the request to Scarborough Borough Council for a pavement licence.
The application from Jennifer Whitelaw states: “Outdoor seating to the front of the premises for [the] serving of food and drink, Monday-Sunday [from] 9.30am to 3pm.”
Planning permission is temporarily waived for pavement licences and the process is sped up to limit applicants’ waiting times.
