Pirates aim to impress on home return

Scarboroug­h Pirates are gearing up for their first home game in over three years, writes Charlie Hopper.

Zac Metcalfe’s side make a long-awaited return to competitiv­e home action on Saturday, when they host Bilton Bears at Hunmanby.

The Pirates started their competitiv­e campaign on Saturday and put in a solid show in the loss against the experience­d Three Tuns.

Pirates debutants Jordan Palliser and Jack Marr impressed throughout, the latter playing his first-ever rugby league game.

Toby Welsby scored the only try for the visitors as he made a brilliant solo run, dodging the opposition defenders to score.

Prop forward Callum Wright received man of the match after his impressive performanc­e, leading the team from the front.

The Pirates fell to a 424 defeat and will look to bounce back on Saturday.

Pirates player Tom Read said: “We are learning every week how to play together and with a defeat like this we have to take the positives from it.

“It’s made the team realise just how hard we are going to have to work to be competitiv­e.”
