Bateson leads the way at Three Peaks

Five SAC members competed in the annual and 67th Yorkshire 3 Peaks Race.

This traverses the famous Yorkshire Dales mountains of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborou­gh.

The course consists of a 24-mile route with 5,200 feet of climb, and is one of the oldest, most famous, and best organised fell races in Britain.

Dan Bateson led the club’s members after finishing 50th overall of 387 in 3 hours 49 minutes. He was closely followed by Paul Lawton in 53rd and 3 hours 50 minutes.

Rhona Marshall was 13th Open female and fifth Over-40 in 4 hours 7 minutes.

She was followed by Nikki Carr Walls 25th Open female in 4 hours 25 minutes.

Both Rhona and Nikki posted Personal Best times.

Alan Whelan followed in 181st overall in 4 hours 29, and notably in the top half of the field, plus a total of 59 who failed to finish this most challengin­g event inside strict time limits,

Three club members competed in the Guisboroug­h Tops Fell Race.

The race was a counter in the English Fell Racing Championsh­ip and attracted some of the best fell runners in England.

The race is over a 9.9-mile course with 2,625 feet of climb on the North York Moors, which includes a breathless scramble to Roseberry Topping’s trig point.

Matt Machouki led club trio in 119th overall of 282 and 12th Over-50 in 1-hour 31minutes

Rebecca Dent followed in 1 hour 49 minutes and was 6th Under-23.

Neil Scruton was third Over-70 in 1 hour 59 minutes.

Five club members competed in the North of England Track and Field League East 1 fixture at Costello Stadium Hull.

With a depleted entry they achieved sufficient league points to finish in seventh place.

The club’s top men’s scorers were field event specialist­s Rob Russell and Matt Burke.

Russell competed in three ‘A’ events and Burke backed up these in ‘B’ events thus. Shot - Rob 3rd and Matt 4th. Discus - Rob 2nd and Matt 3rd. Hammer- Rob 4th and Matt 4th. Matt increased his tally with a second ‘A’ Javelin.

The top female scorer was Julia Hubbard who competed in two track and three field events.

On the track she was fifth ‘A’ 100m and sixth ‘A’ 200 m.

At field events she was second ‘B’ Shot with a PB, fourth ‘A’ Discus and fifth ‘A’ Javelin.

Jenna Wheatman and Victoria Lockey both won their Hammer events when Jenna achieved victory in the ‘A’ event, and Victoria won the ‘B’ event. Victoria was also fourth in the ‘A’ Shot.

The club’s second-claim member Kevin Hughes competed in the Whit’th Whippets 5k multi-terrain race around the Cown Reservoir near Rochdale.

He finished in 83rd overall of 146 in 25.08.
