Ladies C hot-shots roar to 8-1 triumph at Brid LTC

-

The second week into the Driffield and District Tennis League saw Hackness and Scarborough’s Ladies C team (pictured above) win in style at Bridlington LTC C in Division Five.

On a damp evening there was some discussion about whether to go ahead but both teams soldiered on despite some showers, writes Mark White..

The result was an 8-1 victory for the Hackness and Scarborough team.

With the same successful pairs from last week Theresa Glassett and Hannah Longman won three rubbers very comfortably.

Jen Fell and partner Jane Thomson also took three rubbers with Gail Kerr and her partner June Stevenson kicking in with a very creditable two rubbers.

The Men’s B team had to travel to Hutton Cranswick for their Division One match.

As reported last week the club has two teams in Division One for the first time.

It was always known therefore that the B team were going to struggle and this is proving to be the case.

They lost this match against the team who went up to division one with them by 8 rubbers to 1 with only Jim Mellor and John Ellison taking single rubber.

Captain Bryan Edwards with Steve Brindle and PJ Guthrie with Martin Glassett had to return home empty handed, the team perhaps a little chastened by the experience.

There were some close matches and these are good players but division one is a very good standard.

We will have to watch to see if the team can maintain their status in the top division.

The opposition for the Men’s C team couldn’t raise a team for their Division Four clash.
