To showcase summer racing

Family Day Fixtures

fixtures and entertainment on offer, Great British Racing has teamed up with TV presenter and former football star Jermaine Jenas as part of Everyone’s Turf campaign.

Jenas, who has attended a number of racing fixtures, said: “Nothing beats taking your family to see live sport and a day at the races is unique with the chance to see the horses and jockeys up close, be it at the parade ring or cheering them on at the finish line.

“All the racecourses make a real effort to make their race days special and memorable by putting on activities for children to enjoy between racing too and, with under 18s going racing for free at racecourses, it’s a no brainer when planning a family day out in the summer holidays.

“I am really excited to be part of Everyone’s Turf. The sporting action is second to none and the range of race day experiences on offer is setting the benchmark for days out this summer.

“The stars of the sport, both jockeys and horses, will put on a memorable show at every track and there’s something for everyone at the races.

"Whether taking your family, going with a group of friends for the music after racing, or you’re a foodie, you are going to have a fantastic day out.”

Khadijah Mellah, who also features in the campaign and is first British Muslim woman to have won a British horserace, said: “Every time I attend the races it is a really special day and there is so much to experience.

"It is such a unique sport and I love how close you can get to the amazing racehorses.

"There is always such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and I can’t wait to bring my family and friends over the summer.”

Charlotte Russell, general manager of Go Racing In Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled to have such a variety of activities on offer for racegoers this summer.

"Our Family Days have something fun for everyone and we can’t wait to see families from all over Yorkshire come and spend a memorable day at the races with us.

Racing is Britain’s second largest spectator sport and encourages everyone – from fans to novices – to enjoy race days.

In her sermon Mrs Henney spoke about how our desire for earthly things has become more important than following the example that Jesus gave us of showing patience, generosity and love.

We can become greedy and look after ourselves first, but Jesus said having wealth and possessions do not make a better person than one who has nothing.

Worship included The Runner’s Prayer. Bible readings were from Psalm 107 and the parable of the Rich Fool from Luke’s Gospel.

In these days there are so many who are struggling but we mustn’t lose heart. Jesus lived, died on the cross and rose again because of His love for us.
