The next service at St Hilda’s Church will be on Sunday, August 28, 10.15am, when Holy Communion will be celebrated. All welcome.

Sherburn Local History Society would like to thank everyone who has participated in any way since they started last September, either as a volunteer or as part of the audience, plus helpers who sustain us in the background.

On Saturday, July 23, we celebrated the end of our first year activities with a free, well attended family open day.

John Clarke (photographer and archivist) and Anne Collier (author and historian) were presented with Honorary Membership Certificates in appreciation of their outstanding contributions and unswerving support in setting up the group.

Lots of local pictures of people and places were on display and others were brought by guests.

The event also included lots of fun, refreshments and a large raffle.

Our next meeting is Monday, September 5, meet at The Grange Farm Museum, 7pm.

Our usual entry fee will be donated to charity via the farm in thanks for allowing us this special start to our second year.

A warm welcome awaits you from the two Sues when you pop along to the village hall on Thursdays, 9-11.30am, for a coffee and toasted teacake.

The cost of your morning visit of £2 for your coffee and teacake will all help the village hall funds.

All are most welcome.

Methodist news

The morning worship took the form of a Songs of Praise and was led by the worship team assisted by members of the congregation, who had chosen hymns and explained why that particular hymn was meaningful to them.

It was very special hearing one another’s stories and testimonies, and lovely to worship God in this way.

After the service we enjoyed coffee together in the hall.

The service this Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Mrs Patricia Henny, and all are welcome to come along.

Sherburn Village Show will be held on Sunday (August 14) at the village hall.

Please bring your exhibits to the hall between 10am and 11.30am. Show opens to all at 2pm, and closes at 3.30pm. Entrance is free and all are welcome. Tea and coffee available.

A raffle will be held and any donations will be gratefully received. Show schedules are available from the post office and the middle shop.

Proceeds from the show are to provide a Christmas tree at the village hall, and any monies remaining will be used to plant flowers around the village.

The Sherburn Playing Field Association’s fun day will be held on Sunday, August 28, at Sherburn Playing Field.

Lots of things to do and all proceeds go towards the new play park. All are welcome.

Sue Pollard will be changing her coffee morning role for her portrait artist role on Sunday, September 11, when she has a presentation afternoon of her portraits, 1-4pm, in Sherburn Village Hall. There will be a raffle and the prize will be a personalised portrait by Sue.
