Action to prevent floods in town
Plans are on the drawing board for action to combat flooding in Kirkbymoorside, the town council has been told.
Joe Allen, a senior officer with the Environment Agency, told councillors the project will be in two phases, one to manage the volume of surface water from the moors, which will be carried out by the Agency, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and local landowners, while the other will be a flood management scheme involving drainage systems to be done by the county council. Wider benefits include improving water quality and maintenance of natural habitats, he said.
