Fans were left disappointed after singer Lewis Capaldi’s concert at Scarborough Open Air Theatre was cancelled just the day before the show.

The popular Scottish star was due to take to the stage at the Open Air Theatre last Thursday, but it was cancelled early on Wednesday evening, due to illness.

Capaldi, who is currently on a social media hiatus, did not personally update fans online to his condition.

He previously performed in Scarborough in 2019.

It is the second time Capaldi has cancelled his show in Scarborough, with this year's rearranged date postponed

from 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and focusing on producing new music.

In a statement, Scarborough Open Air Theatre said:

"We are sorry to inform you that Lewis Capaldi’s show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre will not be going ahead due to illness.

"We wish Lewis well and a speedy recovery and hope to welcome him back to the Open Air Theatre in the future."

All ticket holders will receive a full refund automatically from their point of purchase. Ticket holders will be contacted directly by providers, which may take several days to process.

Last month, Tears for Fears pulled out of their gig in Scarborough after band member Curt Smith suffered a “serious rib injury”.

The final concert for this summer at the venue is George Ezra.

The BRIT award-winning and multi-platinum selling artist will take to the stage on Friday, September 23.

George is one of the UK’s most acclaimed songwriters and live performers.

After two blockbuster albums – Wanted On Voyage (2014) and Staying At Tamara’s (2018), both of which reached Number 1 in the UK and sold millions around the world – he returned ‘to heart and hearth’ to create another album, written and produced with longstanding collaborator Joel Pott.

The Gold Rush Kid album includes the hit singles Anyone For You and Green Green Grass which George and his band performed on the red carpet to open this year’s Bafta TV Awards.

He said: “Getting to perform for you all every night is the best thing in the world, the energy is electric and it’s a genuine pleasure.

"I can’t wait to do it all over again this year!”
