Filey aces take top spot at Seamer BC

-

Seamer & District Bowling Club’s Whistlestop competition was a smash hit last weekend.

This is one of the best Whistlestops in the area with 24 teams competing through out the day from 10am to 4.30pm for the Harry Webster Shield and a total of £200 in prize money.

Each team plays four games which start and stop on the whistle.

The day was blessed with good weather which saw the green bowl well and at a decent speed.

The winners were Paul Storrey and Bryan Brooks from the Filey Bowling Club who narrowly beat a Thornton Le Dale duo Tom and Shirley Wakefield on shots difference.

In the third, fourth and fifth places were Edwin Smith and Pat Lawry (South Cliff/Kirkbymoorside), John and Helen Boyes (Cayton) and Pat O’Shea and Bill Pierson (Brotton/Middlesborough).

Various Seamer club members took it in turn to run a large tombola with over a hundred prizes. Others served refreshments throughout the day.

The ever popular novelty “Spider” competition during a short break from the main event saw Pauline Turner win the mystery prize (£10) and Jackie Brown a bottle of whiskey donated by Peter Cross.

Joanne Senior won another bottle of whiskey in a raffle and Christine Broughton a Halogen Cooker donated by Alan Pickup.

The funds raised during the day go towards keeping the club’s subscription down to £20 pa. Thanks were given to all who helped before, during and after the event and to all who donated prizes and refreshments.
