Kendrew hat-trick helps Heslerton to 4-3 Dale win

The Sean Dixon Memorial Trophy competitio­n is giving the Beckett League teams chance to warm up for the new season.

The final will be played at Thorntonle­DaleonThur­sday, kick-off 6.30pm

Thursday evening saw hosts Thornton le Dale take on Heslerton in a thrilling final group game.

Heslerton struck inside five minutes with Gareth

Driver finding strike partner Morgan Kendrew who slotted home.

However, the lead lasted onlyminute­sbeforeTho­rnton woulddrawl­evelthroug­hMike Scott, then the hosts went ahead with a Toby Dale goal.

It wasn't long though before Kendrew would add his second, from a delightful ball from Jamie Atkinson. The Bluespushe­donfromher­eand inside the last ten minutes of thehalf,Atkinsonag­ainfedhis striker Kendrew to complete his first half hat-trick.

Thornton wouldn't be outdone though, and Thornton equalised with a 20-yard cracker by Toby Dale.

Thesecondh­alfbeganwi­th controvers­yasThornto­nwere awarded a disputed penalty. Up stepped Morgan Elvin, but his spot kick would sail high over the Heslerton bar.

The visitors attempted to step things up with Atkinson and captain Ollie Stanton beginning to pull the strings in midfield.

Inside the last 15 minutes, right winger Jake Allardice sped into the box, riding a challenge he then had his heels clipped giving the man in the middle no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Driver who duly fired home giving his side the lead once more, one this time they would hang onto win 4-3.

Heslerton’s man of the match spoils were shared between Kendrew and Atkinson.

Rosedale drew with

RyedaleSpo­rtsClubRes­erves 4-4 on the same night.

The Rosedale goals were scored by Alastair Wilkinson, Graeme Atkinson, Josh Butler, and Aiden Taylor and the Ryedale marksmen were Charley Watson, Hector Wigby, Joe Wood, and Matthew Simpson.

On Friday Sinnington werebeaten­4-2byDuncomb­e Park Reserves.

The Helmsley side’s goals werescored­byJamesKin­g(2), Eddie Barnes, and Johnny Nicholson.

Jon Mitchell and James Farrow were the Sinnington marksmen.
