Coast and Vale schools celebrate success

-

Schools from across the Coast and Vale Learning Trust family celebrated exam successes and learners’ achievements with both positive GCSE and A-Level results.

Coast and Vale Learning Trust is a growing academy trust based on the Yorkshire Coast and extending to the Vale of Pickering.

The trust comprises of four secondary schools – Filey School, Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering, Scalby School and Scarborough UTC – along with two primary schools – Friarage Community Primary School and Newby and Scalby Primary School.

Filey School

Filey School joined Coast and Vale Learning Trust on June 1, 2022, but has been working with the school improvement team since January.

Interim Headteacher Michelle Britton highlighted the positive progress made by students in the academic year.

“We are so proud of our yYear 11 students today; it has been a pleasure to see so many smiling faces this morning,” she said.

“Many of the pupils have made significant gains over the past academic year which is just reward for their efforts.

“Our transfer to Coast and Vale Learning Trust is an exciting time for the school, but change can also be unsettling.

“We couldn’t be prouder of how well Year 11 have dealt with the process and engaged so positively in the benefits of our transfer.

“We wish them all the very best in the future.”

Lady Lumley’s

Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering had both A-Level and GCSE result successes in what has been a challenging time for students who had experienced multiple lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Headteacher Clair Foden is “full of confidence for this year group – fabulous results and real character, we are delighted for them,” she said.

Lady Lumley’s students have done exceedingly well in the strong (5 and above) and standard (4 and above) pass rates, opening doors to them for post-16 choices.

Year 13 leavers achieved outstanding results with straight A*s at A-Level opening the door to Cambridge University to read Natural Science, for Languages and Engineering.

A brilliant range of exciting futures have opened up with Lady Lumley’s students placed on Nursing degrees, Veterinary Science, English, Agriculture and Criminology to name but a few!

There are still places available for students to join Lady Lumley’s Sixth Form: contact Mr Carter on a.carter@ll.coastandvale.academy if you would like to discuss further.

Scalby School

Scaby School celebrated student achievement and attainment results which, across a range of measures, were well above historical national averages when examinations were last sat in 2019.

Headteacher Chris Robertson expressed pride in Scalby School’s student successes in a challenging period. He said: “This has been an extremely challenging year for all students and the significant disruption to education over the past two years has been felt most by those who have taken their final exams this summer.

“Scalby students have achieved incredibly well across the full range of GCSE and Vocational Level 2 qualifications and will continue to do so within their chosen new destinations.

“Our staff have worked incredibly hard to ensure that students have been cared for and have continued to receive the best education possible in very difficult circumstances.

“We would also like to thank the parents and carers of our students for the support and encouragement they have shown their children throughout this challenging year and this is a significant factor in the success we celebrated today.”
