South Cliff Captain Gloria nets hole in one
South Cliff Golf Club Lady Captain Gloria Pickering aced the 100-yard 14th hole in the Claridge Cup, a medal competition for the Over-55s.
Gloria hit a perfect 7 iron straight at the flag to achieve the third hole-in-one of her golfing career.
The cup winner was Clare Thompsonwithanimpressive three-under-par nett score of 69. Ann Eley came a close second after a count back over the last 6 holes.
Janet Howes claimed victory in the President’s Cup, the best two medal rounds played overthreeconsecutiveFridays.. Her scores of 72 and 76 total of 148 was just enough to claim victoryoverClareThompson’s 79 and 70 total of 149.
Players reached the final round of the Anderson Cup a matchplay competition, several knockout rounds culminatinginonevictoriousplayer.
The two finalists were Ali Lockwood and Dorothy Day.
Ali took the early lead, 4 up after 4 holes. Dorothy cut this lead to 2 at the halfway stage. By the 16th hole Dorothy had levelled, claiming victory on the 18th.
The monthly medal Division One winner was Anita Arnold-Forster with a nett 76, pipping Gloria Pickering by one shot. Division Two was won by Mary Ryan with a nett 74 after a countback from Ann Eley. Division Three and Golf Foundation Brooch winner was Judy Kraft with a nett 73 after a countback from runner up Ann Wrigglesworth. Friday’s Invitation Day was won by Ali Lockwood, Melanie Morton, Denise Holmes and Naomi Edwards with a great score of 93 points.
