Philatelists
AUGUST MEETING – The August meeting of the Scarborough Philatelic Society was non-philatelic related and featured a talk from Christopher Phillips with a display of many articles relating to Dan Dare, the space hero who featured in The Eagle weekly comic during the 1950s and 1960s.
Early copies of the comic were on show and were a reminder of how our generation were thrilled and excited in our childhood.
Nigel Callaghan brought along some interesting articles relating to Post Office scales for postage weighing up to two ounces with price inscriptions of 2 1/2p for a two ounce letter, and an additional charge of 1/2p for overweight items.
Some other stationery was on display relating to changes of ownership of what is now known to us all as the Royal Mail.
Ted Lunn gave us a look into his personal history with extracts from wills displaying inheritances to various members of his close family.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 14, at Osgodby Community Centre, 7pm.
Anyone with an interest in stamps/postcards and/ or philatelic matters will be made most welcome.
