ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR PUMPKIN

-

AN American man hopes to have set a new world record for paddling 61km (38 miles) – in a giant pumpkin!

Sixty-year-old Duane Hansen from Nebraska grew the pumpkin in his garden, dug the insides out and then paddled down the Missouri River in it! The journey took him 11 hours and an impressive amount of rowing.

Officials from Bellevue City Hall were called on to be witnesses for the fruity challenge. They wrote on Facebook: “They say if you stay in your job long enough you might see just about everything and this morning was one of those days!” The officials added that they originally thought Mr Hansen wanted to float the pumpkin down the river on its own and had no idea he was going to be riding in it!

After setting off at 7.30am, Mr Hansen arrived at his final destination just after 6.30pm. He hopes to have nabbed himself a Guinness World Record for the longest journey by pumpkin boat.
