Filey hotshots snap up double success

-

The finals of the Scarborough & District Open Flat Green Bowling League Knockout Cup and Webster Plate took place at Seamer Bowling Club.

Filey v Thornton-le-Dale played for the Cup, with Filey winning after a close finish.

Scalby and Newby won the Webster Plate competition against Burniston and Cloughton.

Filey were also successful in winning the League Shield for this season.

It was an excellent evening of bowling played in glorious sunshine and supported by a large number of spectators.

Castleton Danby & District Bowls Club brought their season of Wednesday triples club competitions to a close last month.

It proved close competition for all seven teams throughout the series and the winners were Bill Filer, Guisborough, Carol Harrison, Lealholm, and Linda Dove, Guisborough, by just one point.

Their trophies were so delicate they didn`t dare take them out of the boxes.

The club enjoyed a very successful season overall, finishing third in the Cleveland League behind winners Skelton and runners-up Guisborough Priory and third in the Langburgh league.

The club, always keen to sign up new members, run a social bowling night throughout the season as well as many friendly matches for new starters.
