Smart and Dodds shine in Paragon 2up 10-mile time trial

Scarboroug­h Paragon Cycling Club held its 2up 10-mile time trial at Snainton.

Five pairs had a go, with Duncan Smart and Stephen Dodds being the fastest team on the night, finishing in 23 minutes 32 seconds.

Keith and Tom Adams were second in 26:49 and third were Mike Potter and Dave Schubert in 26:54. Raffi Aghanian and Craig Ho l li day finished together in 31:49. Solo riders were H Bay es 26:32, D Bow er 26:48 and D Capes 26:48.

The following week was another 10-mile time trial at Snainton with 14 riders turning out.

The roads were quite busy, resulting in slower times.

In-form associate member Daryl Maffrey avoided such hold-ups and raced rapid to a 22:15, Dodds was second despite being held up on Snainton’s back roads, with 23:53, with Smart in third spot with 23:59.

Sunday morning saw Paragon hold its last 25 mile time trial of the season, with only three races left of the Paragon calender .

Once again several riders were held up due to bank holiday traffic on the roads.

Two of the club’s veteran riders managed however to beat the magic hour barrier.

Dodds finished in 59:25 and Simon Ward in 59:56, this being Ward’ s fastest I rt on 25- mile time trial for a couple of years.

Matt Purnell was one rider to get held up and made his time of 1 hour 25 seconds unfair as he would have gone subone hour.

Rob Corney continues to race well with a 1hr 3m 57s as does Dave Bower in1hr8m38s. Mike Potter, Keith Adams and Dave Schubert finished in 1hr 9m 29s, 1hr 9m 0s and 1hr 12m 29s respective­ly.

On the same day a few Paragon members were competing in the RTTC National 10 mile TT at Gilberdyke, this flagship event decides the national champions

Junior female rider Jas Townsend still rode the event, despite not long being out of hospital, but credit to her as she finished fourth with 28:18.

Veteran rider Smart also raced and finished with a time of 24:19.

Maffrey rode to 22:18, slightly down on where he had hoped to be, but it has been a long season with him also doing some road racing and criteruim events.
