Relegation battle to go down to the wire

The race to stay in the CPH Scarboroug­h Beckett Cricket League Premier Division looks set to go down to the wire in this coming Saturday’s matches.

There are only four points between the four teams – Se am er,Flixt on 2 nds,S tax ton and B romp ton-battling to avoid the two remaining relegation­spots, Bridling ton 2 nds having already been relegated.

Despite this, Brid 2nds helped to keep the relegation battle lively with a 21-run home success against thirdfrom-bottom Brompton.

Simon Lee son (42) and StevenPo ck ley(51)gotBri doff to a cracking start with an opening stand of 88, but they then lost six wickets swiftly to slip to 116-6, only fine work from MatthewFud­ge (35) steered B rid to a55-runseventh-wicketstan­d but another collapse saw them fall from 171-6 to 179 all out.

Neil Fletcher rolled back the years for 3-25 while Kit McCrystal took 3-27.and Tom Pateman 3-49.

In reply, Pateman then top-scored with 54 and Tom Fletcher-Varey added 35, but Brompton missed a great opportunit­y to pull away from the drop-zone as they were all out for 158 thanks to fine bowling from Andy Smith (316),CarlParkin(3-36)andSam Edmundson (3-42).

Staxton boosted their chances of staying in the top flight with a 51-run success at Scalby.

David Morris smacked 60, Chris Dove 51 off just 30 balls, Jack Pi nd er 50 and Adam Hargreaves 25 no as the visitors posted an impressive 271-8, Chris Malthouse taking four wickets for Scalby.

Malthouse capped a superb all-round day with 66, while Brad Walker also added a strong 58, but Ryan Hargreaves’ superb 5-27, allied to 3-44 by Adam Hargreaves, saw Scalby pegged back to 220-9.

Folk ton&Flixt on are also still in relegation trouble despite battling hard in their 41run loss at home to Filey.

The Filey top four batters were on top form, Nathan Robson (56) and Craig Sanders on (35) sharing an opening stand of 53, then Rob son and Fitzgerald (46) put on 89 for the second wicket. Aaron Howard struck 41, while Ryan Baldry added 32 as the hosts posted 244-7, Damon Gormley bagging 3-55.

Josh Dawson then took 4-40 and Baldry 3-29 for Filey, and although Gormley (64no) and Peter Kay (31) showed late resistance, Flixton fell short with 202-9.

Seamer & Irton claimed a crucial110-runwinatho­meto Scalby on Sunday.

The hosts racked up an impressive 264-9 from their 45 overs thanks to impressive knocks from Adam Morris (69), skipper Gregg Chadwick (56) and David Graham (51), while Mitchell Fisher added 38.

Chris Malthouse was the top Scalby bowler with 4-44.

Adam Morris capped a fine all-round show with 3-39 and Matty Morris took 3-37 as Sc al by were dismissed for 154, only defiant knocks from tail end er Tom Hen dry (53) getting the visitors to three figures.

Twenty-four hours earlier Seamer had lost by seven wickets at Ebberston.

Joe Dun nett took a brilliant 5-12 as Seamer were all out for 126, Anthony Jenkinson hitting a defiant 59.

Jordan Welford (52no) and Ben Lockey (37) secured the win for Ebberston.

Heslerton are safe from the drop after they won by 39 runs at home to Staithes in a low-scoring contest.

Simon Bowes must have felthewass­teeringSta­ithesto victory after his excellent 5-17 helped skittle the hosts for 87, Kristian Wilkinson scoring a vital 37.

Wilkinson then bagged brilliant figures of 6-14, Andrew Slaughter taking 4-28 as Staithesst­umbledfrom­21-1to 48 all out.

Champions Mulgrave securedana­stounding2­0thwin in21gamesa­stheywonat­Cayton.

Superb openers Chris Batchelor and Chris Knight were on stunning form yet again,hitting92a­nd87respec­tivelyinab­rilliantst­andof160 as the visitors posted 233-3.

Inreply,CoreyTowel­lhammered an excellent 92 and opener Jake McAleese 68 as the hosts fell narrowly short on 230-5, Andy Raw scooping 3-45.

Both YPLN Scarboroug­h sides suffered on Saturday as their depleted ranks were hit with resounding defeats.

Scarboroug­h CC 1sts fielded just two first team regulars and faced division runners-up York in their final outing of the 2022 summer.

The hosts were indebted to a brilliant 84 by opener Duncan Brown in his final appearance of a two-year stint with the North Marine Road side, p ass ing1,000YPLN runs in the process.

Although the young side batted bravely, only Brad Milburn (20) offered any real support, as the hosts fell to the pace of Jon Moxon (4-45) and spinner Darcy O' Connor (4-52) as they were dismissed for 154.

The visitors were in a hurry as Duncan Snell (73) launched an early assault.

It was left to Ryan Mckendry (34no) to hit the winning runs.

Jon Crick and Archie Hammond were the wicket takers but this defeat ensures a bottom half of the table finish for Scarboroug­h. Scarboroug­h 2nds succumbed to a 328-run defeat at Woodhosue Grange 2nds.

Chris Wood led the hosts to 381-5 with a super 118 while Ted Baty added 87.

Baty then claimed 5-22 as the visitors could only muster 53.

This weekend the 2 nd sf in is ho ff the campaign at North Marine Road, entertaini­ng Sutton-on-Hull with a noon start.

Flixton suffered a sevenwicke­t defeat at Welton in the YPLN Championsh­ip.

The visitors were all out for 216, Max Harland making 66 with Tom Norman (26) and Jake Hatton (30) also contributi­ng.

Welton’s James Windeatt (81) saw the hosts pass theFlixt on total in 39.2 overs.

Flixton's final game is at home to York 2nds on Saturday.
