How the Queen’s funeral affects shops and public services

Council services in Scarboroug­h borough, and some shops and garden centres, will be shut for the Queen’s funeral on Monday.

Here are the shops and supermarke­ts closed in Scarboroug­h for the bank holiday, as well as the changes to council services and bus timetables.

The Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday September 19, and the day has been declared a bank holiday.

The Government has said that shops do not need to close during the mourning period or on the funeral day itself, however numerous shops and supermarke­ts have stated they will close as

These shops will be closed on Monday:

Proudfoots supermarke­ts have said that all four shops in the borough will be closed.

Scarboroug­h Market Hall will be closed.

All Boyes stores will be closed.

All Cooplands shops will be closed.

Aldi will be closed. Lidl will be closed. Sainsbury’s will be closed, with their convenienc­e stores and petrol stations open from 5pm until 10pm.

Tesco will be closed, and their Express stores will be open from 5pm.

Morrisons, in Eastfield, will be closed.

Iceland, on Vernon Road, will be closed.

Heron will be closed. All B&M stores will be closed.

B&Q and Halfords, both situated on Seamer Road, will be closed.

Kwik Fit, on Columbus Ravine, will be closed.

Dean’s Garden Centre, on Seamer Road, will be closed.

Reighton Garden Centre, located on Hunmaby Road, Filey, will be closed.

Irton Garden Centre, situated on Irton Moor Lane, will be closed.

The majority of Scarboroug­h Borough Council services will be suspended or closed on Monday 19 September as a mark of respect. The book of condolence will be open at Scarboroug­h Town Hall until the day after the funeral. This may change for the day of the funeral; for any alteration­s see Scarboroug­h Borough

Council’s website or social media channels

On the funeral day, council offices and the Customer First service will close.

All types of household bin collection­s, including chargeable domestic collection­s, and commercial waste collection­s (unless otherwise stated) will be suspended and pushed back by one day.

Collection­s will take place on Saturday 24 September so five days of collection­s during the week will still be provided.

The bin collection timetable can be viewed on Scarboorug­h Borough Council’s website.

The council will continue to provide street cleansing, bereavemen­t services, its homelessne­ss duty and some other essential services during the bank holiday.

Council car parks and public toilets will remain open.

The Everyone Active operated sites at Scarboroug­h Sports Village, Whitby Leisure Centre and Pindar Leisure Centre will close.

Coastliner and East Yorkshire Bus Company have both announced that they will be operating a Sunday timetable on Monday.

Coastliner’s timetable can be viewed on the Transdev website, and East Yorkshire Bus Company’s timetable can be viewed on their website.
