Goldwing parade cancelled
Scarborough’s Goldwing Light Parade was among the events cancelled or postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The illuminated bike parade was set to make an eagerly-anticipated spectacular return to the seafront for the first time in three years after Covid-enforced cancellations.
The event was cancelled, although some riders did have a smaller-scale meet on West Pier and, according to the event’s Facebook page, collected more than £1,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
In a joint statement, organisers of the event and Scarborough Council said “it does not seem appropriate to go ahead with the event as planned”.
Some Heritage Open Weekend events did take place, although others did not.
A charity walk in Peasholm Park on Saturday September 17 by the Scarborough branch of Parkinson’s UK has been postponed.
