Toilets to close
The public toilets on Scalby’s High Street are to close for good at the end of this month.
They are currently managed by volunteer trustees, called the "Sweet Pea Committee '', and it was also formally set up as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in November 2021.
The toilets, in an old building, are in a conservation area, and since their closure by the council originally in 2005, and their re-opening by the toilet trust volunteers in 2011, have had to rely on sponsorship and voluntary donations to an honesty box.
Jackie Smith, Scalby Toilet Trust Secretary, said: “It is disappointing that we struggle to fundraise to support and maintain what is a great facility for locals and tourists, but it is with regret that we have to announce that the toilets will close on 30th September 2022."
