WAIT GOES ON FOR DERBY VICTORY

The Queen’s horses have never won the Derby to this day but she was lucky enough to gain a second place with Aureole in 1953, the year of her coronation. This unfortunately was the closest she ever came to winning the big race with Sir Gordon Richards, knighted by The Queen five days earlier, winning on Pinza in the 1953 Derby race.
