Record-breaking victory for powerlifting debutant Sally
Filey powerlifter Sally Tibbetts has made the perfect competitive start in the sport.
Sally Tibbetts entered her first powerlifting competition in Barton on Humber at the weekend,
Tibbetts, aged 64, won the GPC Northern qualifiers in the Push Pull, where lifters have three attempts at the Bench Press and the Deadlift with their biggest successful lifts being added together for a total.
She lifted 40kg on the Bench Press, failing to lift a new British record on a fourth attempt.
On the Deadlift she broke the British record three times finishing on a successful lift of 95kg, enough to qualify her for the GPC British and World Championships in Slovakia later in the year.
Tibbetts has only been training for just over nine months under her personal trainer Phil Beniston, himself a World Powerlifting Champion at Filey PT Gym.
