Winning starts for Filey and Newlands

-

Filey Town made the ideal start to their first-ever Right Car East Riding County League campaign with a 6-1 home success against Leven MC in the League Senior Cup.

First-half goals from Joe Gage, Tom Haxby, Oli Milner and Tyler Beck ensured Filey got their cup campaign off to the best possible start for new manager Dean Storry,

Filey, playing against the wind, dominatedproceedings from the off, with wingers Milner and Beck, along with attacking midfielder Nathan Barber, being at the heart of every attack.

The second half saw Beck add his second goal before Leven netted a consolation. Darren Lang completed the rout for the hosts in the 85th minute.

Man of the match was Barber, who was at the heart of most of Filey’s attacks. Goalkeeper Alex Chapman made a good start on his debut, with Beck and Dan Baldry also impressive.

Storry said: "I am happy to get my first win as Filey manager and delighted with the football we played, especially in the first half.”

There was also North Riding County FA Sunday Challenge Cup success for Newlands Park, who are taking part in the cup this season despite not having a league to play in after the Scarborough Sunday League folded.

Park came back from 1-0 down to win 5-1 at Gables thanks to a four-goal secondhalf blast from man of the match Zac Hansen, after Rob Whitehead levelled before half-time.

Josh Beach also shone at centre-back for Newlands, who head to Katch in the second round on October 2.
