Seamer glory for Mick and Denise

-

Seamer Bowling Club’s seasonal events came to an end with the Men’s Singles and Ladies’ Singles competitions.

Both were played in a round robin format.

In the Men’s event Peter Cross, with eight points, finished in third place, a point behind Mick Wharton, who won the cup on shots difference mainly due to an easy win over Peter Lees the runner-up.

It is the second time Wharton has won the Men’s Singles. The last time was 10 years ago when he beat Lees in the final.

Wharton received the Cup from Margaret Hill, who oversaw the afternoon.

In the Ladies’ competition Kath Crawford finished a commendable third.

Kathy Short and Denise Everson won all their matches with Denise’s plus shots proving to be better and giving her the trophy for the first time. Everson received the trophy from last year’s winner, Hill.

After both events thanks were given to all who played in the events, to all who marked, to Christine Broughton who served refreshments, to Sheila Rawson who, at the last minute, replaced a late withdrawal through sickness and to Lees, the organiser of the season’s social afternoons.

*GOLF – Winners of this year’s monthly medals at South Cliff Golf Club competed in the Medal Finals Day on Friday.

The ladies battled in gale force winds to complete the 18 hole stroke play competition. The harsh conditions were reflected in the scores, the winner being Judy Locking with a nett 80 beating Judy Kraft by two shots.
