Purcell and Anderson snap up merit victory at Borough
The East Coast of Yorkshire’s final Open Merit of the season, a drawn pairs, was held at Borough Bowling Club.
Sixty-six bowlers from all over the region came to compete for the Bobby Walker and Bill Brewins Trophy.
On a superb green the first pair to bag a place in the final were Whitby’s Tim Purcell and Borough’s Janet Anderson, beating Bridlington Dukes Park’s Sue O’Neill and Borough’s Pauline Allison by the tightest of margins 21-20.
Then Borough’s Barrie Watson and North Cliff ’s Ian
Richardson saw off the challenge of Whitby’s Steve Dover and North Cliff ’s Danny Cooper 21-13 to take the second place in the final.
Watson and Richardson got off to a good start to take a 9-6 lead but Purcell and Anderson came back strongly and with three twos and a four they raced into a 16-11 lead and couldn’t be stopped eventually running out 21-11 with some superb bowling.
