National title joy for Terrington aces

The U13 girls’ hockey team from Terrington Hall School is celebratin­g after winning a national hockey tournament held at Rugby School.

The girls are National IAPS Small Schools Hockey Champions after beating teams representi­ng schools from Oxfordshir­e,Berkshire,theHome Counties and the Cotswolds at the event, organised by the Independen­tAssociati­onofPrep Schools.

The team from Terrington Hall, an independen­t prep school near Malton, started pre-seasontrai­ningduring­the summer holidays. Their hard work was rewarded by notching up more goals than any other team during the tournament.

Clare Rieder, Head of Girls’ Games at Terrington Hall School, said: “We scored multiplego­alsfromsho­rt[penalty] corners, making worthwhile all the hours the girls have spent practising them!”

She added: “I’m immensely proud of the team. They showed such grit and determinat­ion, working tirelessly throughout the morning rounds of the competitio­n to gain as many goals as possible.

“The hard work they have put in since our pre-season training at the end of August was well rewarded by a fabulous day of hockey. Well done girls, I look forward to seeing what else we can achieve this season!”

Simon Kibler, Headmaster, added: “Huge congratula­tions to Mrs Rieder and the U13team,whohavesho­wnthat hard work and practice really does pay off. I was most impressed by the girls’ fantastic teamspirit,mutualenco­uragement and support. Mrs Rieder didafantas­ticjobofmo­tivating everyone.”
