Five-star season by Filey club’s winning bowlers

Filey Southdene Bowling Club returned to action after a disrupted two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the abnormal last two years, it was good to get back to a season of bowling.

This year has seen Filey Southdene Bowling Club go from strength to strength. It has been phenomenal, with the club winning five trophies, unheard of in its history.

The first and second were the Scarboroug­h Flat Green Open Bowling League Winners’ Shield and also the Knock-out Cup with a nailbiting finish.

Filey Southdene’s third trophy came from the Scarboroug­h Vet’s League Division 2 League Winners’ Cup which was won by the Filey team with the Southdene Team runners-up in the Vet’s Knock-out Cup competitio­n.

The fourth trophy for the Filey-based bowling club was the Scarboroug­h Aussie Pairs Knock-out Cup after an exciting final, having played an extra end and winning by a single shot.

The Friday Evening Wolds Independen­t League saw the fifth trophy awarded to Filey

for winning the Division Two League, after playing 12 games and winning 11 of them.

Twenty-one Burniston Bowling Club members contested 35 matches in the annual club KO competitio­ns.

Eventual winners were, Singles R Patterson, runnerup R Evans;

Aussie pairs Winners J Middleton & S Blackburn, runners-up B Cross & E Thornburn;

Triples Winners A Brown, S Blackburn, B Poulter, runners-up R Patterson, C Vasey, J Patterson.
