Club’s young sailors make the grade
Over the last 24 months, a joint project between Scarborough Yacht Club and the Scarborough Sea Cadets aimed at growing a thriving group of qualified young sailors that may become Scarborough Yacht Club (SYC) junior cadets has proved popular.
Situated at North Yorkshire Water Park (previously Wykeham Lakes) on the DawneyEstate, theSeaCadets have a first class collection of smallvesselsrangingfromthe one-person single sail RS Terra sailing dinghy to competitivemulti-personracingRS21 keelboats.
For young people wishing to gain confidence on the water a large number of paddle boards are available.
Scarborough Sea Cadets have highly qualified sailing instructors offering professional sailing tuition along with a rewarding and enjoyable experience to all.

So for the last two sailing seasons, SYC’s Rear CommodoreRudiBarman, andSeaCadets, Gareth Davies MBE with hisAI’s(AssistantInstructors) have partnered together to offer Yorkshire’s young people
adventurous and progressive sailing training courses with RYA certificate opportunities, to attract and encourage young sailors of the future.
Barman said: “This has
worked well, with over 20 youngsailorsstayingwiththe programme over the last 24 months.
“It was planned that the culmination of the course would be a young sailors race onSeptember10,buttheevent was cancelled because of The Queen’s funeral mourning period. The club did, however, award the sailors their certificates and prizes from Gill.
“The club wish our young sailors every success for the future.
