Jono hails team spirit after win

-

Boss Jono Greening hailed the efforts of his Scarborough Athletic team to dig deep for a 4-2 home win against National League North play-off rivals Kidderminster in a Tuesday night thriller.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder was delighted with how Boro worked hard for the win after being pegged back twice by Harriers, centre-back Kieran Burton bagging a hattrick and young striker Ciaran McGuckin also scoring.

Greening said: “It was great night for everyone. It was an entertaining game, we got off to a good start, got pegged back, scored again then pegged back.

"So the boys showed great characterespeciallyafterwhat happened at the weekend.

"I’m really pleased with the efforts of all the players. Even thoughwegavethemacoupleof goalswewerethestrongerteam and deserved the three points.”

Greening was also quick to praise Burton, and added: "Burts has bided his time, we got him from Tadcaster in the summer. We’d been watching himevenbeforewetookthejob here, so we knew what he was capable of. He’s still only 19 or 20 but for his age he is strong, fast, readsthegamewell, isgood in both boxes, is brave and can tackle.Hehasgotagoodfuture.

"Hestillneedstoplaygames to get experience, I think if he carries on like this he won’t be heremuchlongerbutobviously we want to keep him! We want him to do well for us but he has got potential. I’m not sure if I’ve ever played with a centre-back who’s scored a hat-trick!”

Boro head to NPL Premier side Marine in the FA Trophy second round on November 19.

Athletic’s longest-serving player, James Cadman has left the club to join Ossett United.
