Williamson out

-

Scarborough-born former minister Sir Gavin Williamson has resigned after facing an investigation over a series of abusive messages.

The former Education Secretary was recently appointed a minister without portfolio in the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Cabinet Office. He resigned from the cabinet following a series of allegations directed towards him regarding bullying and abusive texts.

The first exchange of messages were obtained by The Sunday Times; they were sent to Liz Truss’ Chief Whip Wendy Morton, and accused her of using the death of the Queen to “punish” senior MPs who were out of favour with Ms Truss’s government.

Sir Gavin is a former East Ayton, Raincliffe School and Scarborough Sixth Form College student.

He has previously been sacked as Defence Secretary and Education Secretary.
