REMEMBRANCE – A large assembly of residents from Brompton and Sawdon congregated at the war memorial on Sunday to mark the annual Remembrance Day. Don Jones led the ceremony and Bob Muir read aloud the names of the servicemen recorded on the memorial.

Three wreaths of poppies were laid and crosses placed in the nearby flower tub.

A service was then held in All Saints’ Church. TREE FESTIVAL – The miniature Christmas tree festival at All Saints’ Church starts on Friday, December 2.

The trees will first be available for viewing at the preview at 6pm. Malton Male Voice Choir will be singing, plus, we hope, some of the pupils from Brompton and Sawdon Primary School. Refreshments include mulled wine, soft drinks and mince pies.

Full details to follow. Entry is by donation, children free. All proceeds to All Saints’ Church Fabric Fund. VILLAGE HALL – A successful quiz night was held in the village hall recently. Thanks for this goes to quiz master Bob Muir who set up a challenging mix of general knowledge and music questions.

A supper of baked potatoes and chilli was organised and served by Anne Tidd with other members of the village hall committee.

It is hoped to run another quiz in the new year and Bob is already working on a set of questions for the next village newsletter to give everyone practice.

A coffee morning in aid of the British Legion Poppy Appeal was held in the hall. It was a lovely get together and a convivial way to spend the morning. Many thanks to everyone who helped from

baking, serving and helping to wash up. Entry was by donation and we await news from the local British Legion as to how much was raised.

The community Christmas lunch for local residents, run by the Village Ventures team, is due to be held on Wednesday, December 14, in the village hall. Doors open at 12.15pm.
