New recruit Darryl shines in Saltergate Gallows Fell Race

Thirteen Scarboroug­h Athletic Club members competed in the Saltergate Gallows Fell race which was second round of the Esk Valley Club Winter Fell Race and based in and around Levisham.

The first finisher for the club for the club was a Fell League debutant Darryl Koekemoer who finished eighth overall of 131.

He was followed by Paul Lawton 17th male and Robert

Preston 22nd male.

Jamie Ward was also making his league debut, closed in for the team which was placed third, in 41st male fourth Over-40.

The women’s team was led once again by Rhona Marshall who finished 4th Female overall and 2nd Over-40.

She was followed by Rebecca Dent 10th female and another League debutant

Amber Botham who 21st female and seventh Over-40 and closed in for the team which finished second.

The club was able to score second teams for both the men and women in the race.

Men. 6th place - I.Beaver 32nd, A.Robertson 62nd and 5th Over-60, L.Wood 79th and 10th Over-60th,G. Casey

94th.

Women 7th Place – Julie Clayton 32nd and 4th Over-55, Lisa Baker 35th and 8th Over-40.

One junior and one senior club members, competed in the second round of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cross Country League at Fox Rush Redcar.

In the first race of the day for Under-11s, nineyear-old Talulah Rawnsley-Stringer battled well with mostly much older girls to finish up in 21st girl and ahead of six others in her second race in this topclass league in the North East of England.

In the Senior Women’s race, Katy Rawnsley and Hester Butterwort­h both made a seasonal league debut and achieved good results in their Over-50 Age Group. Katy was third and Hester fifth of a total of 181.

They were also 21st and 34th females respective­ly overall of 123 which included an Over-70 and Over-75 finisher.

Mike Padgham competed with the older male veterans included in the women’s event, and finished 8th Over-65.
