PROBUS CLUB – Members of the Vale of Pickering Probus Club met for lunch at the Forest and Vale Hotel under the chairmanship of David Hadden-Reece.
LizandAndrewCowleygave an excellent illustrated talk on thehistoryofEllerburnchurch. PARISH CHURCH – The Church of St Peter and St Paul will celebrate Advent Sunday thisSunday(November27)with aLightforChristmasserviceat 3.30pm.
The lights will stay shining until January 6.
The church is open every day, 9am-4pm, for all to enjoy thepeaceandwitnessthelights on the Christmas trees. CHRISTMAS FAIR – On Saturday,December3,therewillbea ChristmasfairwithSantainthe church, 1-4pm. All welcome. LIGHTS SWITCH ON – Thornton-le-Dale will switch on the Christmas lights on Saturday, December 3, 6pm. Festivities commence 4.30pm to 7pm. KIRKTHEATRE–KirkTheatre will stage a Celine Dion tribute evening on Friday, November 25, 7.30pm. Doors open 6.30pm.
On Wednesday, November 30, at Kirk Theatre there will be a special Christmas shopping evening organised by the Friends of Kirk Theatre, 6-8.30pm.
SUPER DRAW – There was no winner of last week’s main prizeof£375intheweeklyPickering Town FC Weekly Super Draw, the winning numbers were 38, 16, 1. This week’s prize will be £450. TRACTORANDENGINECLUB – Despite dense fog and persistent rain 46 members attended the recent Ryedale Vintage TractorandEngineClubmeeting at the Recreation Club.
Geoff Taylor from Stokesley gave a fascinating lecture, illustrated with many period photographs, on the Rosedale ironstone industry.
A brief annual meeting saw mostoftheexistingcommittee voted back in.
The next meeting will be on Monday, December 12, when Angus Ashworth from TV’s Yorkshire Auction House will give a presentation about his life in the antiques business, to be followed by a Christmas finger buffet at £5 per head.
