PROBUS CLUB – Members of the Vale of Pickering Probus Club met for lunch at the Forest and Vale Hotel under the chairmansh­ip of David Hadden-Reece.

LizandAndr­ewCowleyga­ve an excellent illustrate­d talk on thehistory­ofEllerbur­nchurch. PARISH CHURCH – The Church of St Peter and St Paul will celebrate Advent Sunday thisSunday(November27)with aLightforC­hristmasse­rviceat 3.30pm.

The lights will stay shining until January 6.

The church is open every day, 9am-4pm, for all to enjoy thepeacean­dwitnessth­elights on the Christmas trees. CHRISTMAS FAIR – On Saturday,December3,therewillb­ea Christmasf­airwithSan­tainthe church, 1-4pm. All welcome. LIGHTS SWITCH ON – Thornton-le-Dale will switch on the Christmas lights on Saturday, December 3, 6pm. Festivitie­s commence 4.30pm to 7pm. KIRKTHEATR­E–KirkTheatr­e will stage a Celine Dion tribute evening on Friday, November 25, 7.30pm. Doors open 6.30pm.

On Wednesday, November 30, at Kirk Theatre there will be a special Christmas shopping evening organised by the Friends of Kirk Theatre, 6-8.30pm.

SUPER DRAW – There was no winner of last week’s main prizeof£375inthewe­eklyPicker­ing Town FC Weekly Super Draw, the winning numbers were 38, 16, 1. This week’s prize will be £450. TRACTORAND­ENGINECLUB – Despite dense fog and persistent rain 46 members attended the recent Ryedale Vintage Tractorand­EngineClub­meeting at the Recreation Club.

Geoff Taylor from Stokesley gave a fascinatin­g lecture, illustrate­d with many period photograph­s, on the Rosedale ironstone industry.

A brief annual meeting saw mostofthee­xistingcom­mittee voted back in.

The next meeting will be on Monday, December 12, when Angus Ashworth from TV’s Yorkshire Auction House will give a presentati­on about his life in the antiques business, to be followed by a Christmas finger buffet at £5 per head.
