Heslerton and Itis Itis Rovers spot on to net shoot-out wins

The Heslerton v Scalby and Itis Itis Rovers v Seamer games in the Harbour Cup both ended in 2-2 draws, with Heslerton and Rovers both claiming 4-2 penalty schootout successes.

Scalby went into a twogoal lead within the opening 20 minutes at Sand Lane.

SamFoyopen­edthescori­ng after great work from Tommy Day and the second strike was a superb 20-yard left-foot volley into the top corner from George Bramham.

Five minutes before halftime, Heslerton hot-shot Morgan Kendrew broke down the left before coolly slotting homeinside­thelefthan­dpost. The second half saw the hosts begin to turn the screw with Scalby looking to defend deep and counter on the break. If they did get through the Heslertonb­acklinethe­nkeeperSim­on Clark was on hand again to clear the ball to safety.

Inside the final five minutes and a pull on Jack Pinder just outside the Scalby box saw a free-kick awarded and Pinder would give the keeper no chance with a fine low shot through the defensive wall.

In the penalty shootout, Heslerton’s Gareth Driver, Pinder, Jamie Atkinson and Nathan Poole all converted to earn a 4-2 win for the Blues.

Man of the Match winner for Heslerton was keeper Simon Clark, some outstandin­g saves in crucial periods of the game ensured his side the opportunit­y for an eventual victory, while star man for Scalby was Jack Rodgers.

Seamer put their league struggles behind them to take Itis Itis Rovers to penalties, only for Rovers keeper Ben Rowe to deny them a shootout win.

Wardscored­forSeamer,while Mike Barker and Robbie Scarboroug­h replied for Rovers.

Luke Jones, Scarboroug­h, Sam Pickard and Connor Avison all scored for Rovers in the shoot-out, while Rowe pulled off two saves for the home side to seal a 4-2 shoot-out win.

Rowe, who also had a great game before penalties, was named as the victors’ man of the match.

The Seamer man of the match was Callum Metcalf, with Lucas Close and Ward also playing very well. Boss Tom Greenwood said: “Wemayhavel­ostonpenal­ties but every single player played wellandthe­yfelttheyd­eserved more from the game.”
