The Malton Christmas Festival will be living up to the town’s status of Yorkshire’s Food Capital with a plethora of street food. Local producers will be serving mulled wine, figgy puddings, traditiona­l turkey, goose, and award-winning macarons from Malton’s Master Pâtissier.

New to the Christmas Festival this year will be Lucela’s with their unique chocolate flavoured rum, Serious Sweets with a range of old-fashioned sweets, and Seagrown who hand-harvest seaweed from the Yorkshire coast to create a range of food seasonings, cosmetics and beer. Leeds-based The Yorkshire Sea Salt Company is the first salt house to produce 100 per cent natural, mineral-rich sea salt in Yorkshire since the neolithic era. regulars so you can stock up on olive oil, charcuteri­e, festive tipples, baked goods, cheese, ingredient­s, gifts and homewares. Entertainm­ent comes from Malton’s local brass bands, fairground rides and free activities provided by Be Amazing Arts. Visitors will get the chance to tour Malton’s Market Place on the festive land train.

Christmas Open Studio

2 Woodend, The Crescent, Scarboroug­h, Saturday December 3 and Sunday December 4, daily from 10am to 4pm

Woodend artists Lindsey Tyson, Wendy and Tony Belshaw – Sunday only

– and the Scarboroug­h Zine Library – aka Nathan Whackett and Joel Hague – will be opening their studio doors, giving you the opportunit­y to talk to them about their practice and/or to purchase something hand crafted and unique. Tony Belshaw creates artwork from sea-washed pottery and Wendy Belshaw creates jewellery from seawashed pottery and sea glass as well as hand-crafted Christmas decoration­s. Lindsey Tyson Art will be having a mega-sale of her semi-abstract landscapes. Free

Bootleg Blondie

3 Whitby Pavilion, Saturday December 3 at 7.30pm Bootleg Blondie are a Debbie Harry and Blondie tribute band, establishe­d in 2001, and have played the CBGB club in New York City, the Isle of Wight Festival, the Shepherds Bush Empire, London’s 100 Club and the Hammersmit­h Palais.

Christmas light show

8 Scarboroug­h Castle and Lighthouse and Whitby Abbey, Friday December 2 and Saturday December 3 and Friday December 9 and Saturday December 10, from 7pm until 9.30pm in 20-minute intervals

The four-night spectacle, funded by the Yorkshire Coast BID, will see multiple laser beam shows performed in a sequence.

Be Amazing Arts’ immersive production of A Christmas

Carol is set to return to the streets of Malton. Starting at Kemps Bookshop in Malton’s Market Place the promenade production will follow Dickens around the streets of Malton, while the audience are immersed in the festive tale of A Christmas Carol. The audience will also receive festive nibbles and a festive tipple en-route from The Cooks Place, Malton. James Aconley, producer, said ‘‘We were overwhelme­d with the response and feedback to our production of A Christmas Carol last year. We are so excited to bring the production back this year with an adapted script and more unexpected stops along the way. Whitby Seafoods are helping to sponsor the event for the second year running by creating the Whitby Seafoods Community Ice Skating Programme.

The programme allows as many young people as possible to have the experience of ice skating. The Whitby Seafoods sponsorshi­p means that they have created 800 opportunit­ies for school children to take to the ice. The family-focused rink will be open until January 2, giving everyone across the Yorkshire Coast the chance to come down and glide into the festive spirit. Whatever the weather, visitors will be able to skate under the cover of an all-weather marquee on the beautiful Endeavour Wharf.
