Teen star Kelwick earns win in Hull
Scarborough Amateur Boxing Club teenager Danny Kelwick was in excellent form when he travelled south to the famous St. Paul's Boxing Gym at Hull to face Bradfordbased boxer Filip Horvath (Lion Gym).
From the first bell it was the 13-year-old Scarborough boxer who took the bout to his opponent, who appeared to be happy to look to land sharp counter punches.
However, it was Kelwick that managed to land shots effectively to the head and body of Horvath, before then moving out of range to avoid any punishment in return.
As the bout progressed both boxers demonstrated good levels of ability and variety of punches but it was the Scarborough ABC youngster that produced the greater work rate and hand speed.
Kelwick was pinning his Bradford foe to the ropes for lengthy periods before then unleashing eye-catching combination shots to establish a good points lead.
Moving into the final round it appeared that Horvath knew that he might well be behind on the scorecards as he attempted to increase his output.
Yet still Kelwick managed to keep control of matters as he continually used good footwork and angles to expose gaps in a brave opponents defence.
Once the final bell was rung, the judges score cards were then collected before the decision was announced and Scarborough’s Kelwick declared a unanimous points winner.
