ST MARTIN’S – The Christmas fair was well attended and fun was had by all on Saturday. Through the generosity of the local community £826 was raised for St Martin’s Church.

A Holy Communion service is held every first Wednesday of the month, 12.30pm.

Today, Thursday (December 8), a Warm Space will be held at the church room (opposite the church), 10am4pm. All welcome to come along, keep warm, have coffee, stay for a light lunch and chat.

Friday, December 9, Crossgates Christmas coffee morning will be held at Crossgates Community Centre, 10am to 12 noon. Donations to Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

Saturday, December 10, 2pm, Village Voices concert in St Martin’s Church. Admission £5 includes light refreshmen­ts. All welcome.

The service last Sunday, the second Sunday in Advent, was led by John Worthy who preached on Christ’s second coming, the return of Jesus.

STHILDA’S–Thenextser­vices at St Hilda’s Church are Sherburn Primary School’s nativity withacarol­serviceonT­uesday, December13,2pm;andtheLess­ons and Carols service which will be held on Thursday, December 15, 7pm. Light refreshmen­tsservedat­thecloseof­the service. METHODIST CHURCH – Sunday worship was led by the Rev Emma Morgan. The second candle on the Advent ring was lit. The Bible Readings were from Isaiah and the Gospel of Matthew. After worship we shared coffee together in the hall.

The service this Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Nikki Warner and all are welcome.

Monday: Bible Fellowship and Prayer, 1.30pm; Tuesday: coffee morning, 10-11.30am; Thursday: Craft Club, 1.30pm, enjoy a cuppa as you do your craft. CHRISTINGL­E – On Sunday, December 18, there will be a café style christingl­e service at 10.15am at the Methodist Church, when you can build your own christingl­e. The offering will be in aid of the Children’sSocietyan­drefreshme­ntswillbes­erveddurin­gthe

café style service. VILLAGE HALL – Thank you to everyone who came to the Christmas light up and to everyone who made a raffle prize donation. Thank you to Barbara Grice for the donation of the Christmas cake and to Sherburn Brownies for creating the brilliant decoration­s. Thank you to all committee members for your help, but a special thank you to Tina Dobson for presenting the light up, and to Leah Dobson for doing the big switch on.

TASTER EVENING – On Saturday, December 10, 7pm, there will be a Christmas taster evening in the village hall with Trotters and Tate Smiths. Admission£6includese­ntrytothe prize draw and a drink.
