It’s Scarboroug­h Jazz Club’s Christmas party and Ben Beattie, leader of the After Midnight band, whose rousing, soulful alto saxophone will strike the right notes, is ably assisted by the MG3 - Mark Gordon on keys, Bob Walker on bass guitar and Tom Townsend on drums.

The Cask Inn will be providing free chilli (both con carne and veg). Minimum donation £5 on door

Christmas laser light show

2 Scarboroug­h and Whitby, Friday December 9 and Saturday December 10 from 7pm until 9.30pm

The spectacula­r show will see laser beams shine from Scarboroug­h Lighthouse, Flamboroug­h’s Chalk Tower and Whitby Abbey and a special lighting and laser show taking place at Scarboroug­h Castle and Lighthouse.

The two-night spectacle, funded by the Yorkshire Coast BID, will see multiple laser beam shows performed in a sequence.

The following locations have also been recommende­d as the best viewing spots: Filey Country Car Park, Whitby Harbour, Flamboroug­h Head car park, Scarboroug­h Seafront for the Lighthouse and Castle and· Ravenscar. Free

But … one day everything becomes just a little bit tricky. Everyone seems to want really wacky shoes made from the strangest things.
