Gail forces her way into top half of Percy Pub 10K finishers

-

Scarborough Athletic Club’s Gail Barnard competed in the annual PercyPub10-kilometre road race in Sheffield.

The race which had a Christmas flavour is a most popular event with many of the runners wearing seasonal fancy dress.

Gail completed the race inside the top half overall of 2,876 in a time of 52 minutes 2 seconds.

The weekly five-kilometre

Parkrun events were greatly affected by the snowy and icy conditions on the courses.

Just four club members took part in the North Yorkshire Water Park Parkrun, and their fortitude resulted in achieving some good results overall and in their age groups.

Hester Butterworth was second female overall of 24 and first Over-40.

Harry Whitehouse was first Over-70, Mike Padgham first Over-65 and Suzanne Villiers third Over-60.

Dave Shipley was the only club member at the Sewerby Parkrun, he finished in 29th overall of 91 and was first Over-65.

Icy conditions impacted numbers at Sewerby, where the field failed to make it into triple figures for the first time in more than a year.

Bridlington Road Runners’

Phill Taylor was the only runner to break 20 minutes and won by almost 30 seconds.

Fellow BRR members Nick Jordan, Ashley Porter and Paul Good were third, fourth and sixth and Rebecca Miller was third female and 18th overall.

Remarkably, given the conditions underfoot, there was one BRR PB, from Clare Gummerson, who took five seconds off her previous best time.

It was a milestone morning for BRR junior Micah Gibson, who completed his 100th Parkrun.

Brid Road Runners revelled in the challenging conditions at the third East Yorkshire Cross Country League event at Bishop Wilton.

Despite the icy conditions competition was still hot, with seven of the 10 clubs involved all having a top 10 finisher.

Brid claimed three of the top 10, with James Wilson fourth, Tom Mullen sixth and Danny Brunton in ninth spot as BRR finished third again.

The women’s team was somewhat depleted and it meant all four finishers scored points. Clare Gummerson was fastest in 20th place.
