METHODIST CHURCH – The service last Sunday was arranged and lead by Bob Jackman.

Bible readings were given by Jan and Bert Blower and Bob Jackman.

The title of Bob’s address was the Methodist Church’s subject for Lent which is, ‘Whatismine­todo’.Itwasalso based on the Rev Clare Welsh’s reflection­s on the changes we make throughout our lives.

The offering was taken by Yvonne Beaton, and Yvonne also arranged the church flowers.

The preacher this Sunday, March 3, 10.30am, is the Rev Dr Kevin Ridd and Holy Communion will be offered. All welcome.

WI MEETING – President of Seamer and Irton WI, Denise Astling, welcomed 23 members and two guests to the February meeting held in the memorial hall.

She introduced the speakers, Jeannie Swales and Jaye Lewis, from Stephen Joseph Theatre, who gave a lively and entertaini­ng talk.

They described their long involvemen­t with this wonderful theatre and gave us some insight into their interestin­g and challengin­g roles there. Members were then able to ask their own questions.

This was followed by a break for tea and the raffle was drawn. Winners this month were Janet Beadle, Ann Crossley, Jan Braidley and Sheena O'Connell.

The competitio­n was won byBarbaraD­avies,secondwas Julie Deighton and third place went to Anthea Stankiste.

The supper club is proving to be very popular and is held on the last Friday of the month. The handicraft group meets again on Wednesday, March 13, 2pm, when Anne Theakston will receive any knitted poppies and forward them on.

The WI Coast and Valley group Clean Rivers conference takes place at North Yorkshire Water Park at Wykeham on Friday, March 22.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, March 20, 2pm, when the speaker will be Jennie Orrah of Jennie's Therapies and Yoga Yorkshire, who lives and works in Seamer.

The competitio­n is for an old-fashioned remedy or cure or an old recipe. Please jot one down and bring it along.
