Belinda O’Hooley will launch Friday Folk at the Kirk Theatre
The Kirk Theatre in Pickering is preparing to launch a new series of folk music events across the year with the first being Friday, March 1. The series of events named Friday Folk will see a number of folk music artists come to the Pickering venue.
To jazz up the concert lineup, the theatre is gearing up to host the fabulous folk sensation, Belinda O’Hooley.
Get ready to be wowed by her magic fingers on the piano and her soul-stirring voice, as she takes you on a musical journey like no other.
She's also one fabulous part of the beloved Yorkshire folk duo O’Hooley and Tidow, teaming up with her wife Heidi Tidow. The Guardian raves about them, calling them ‘songwriting superheroes’.
The duo have been propelled into newfound fame for penning the theme tune to Sally Wainwright’s hit BBC1/HBO drama Gentleman Jack, earning them global admiration, an acting role for Belinda on the iconic TV drama Happy Valley, Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and concerts that sell out months in advance.
Belinda is famous for her creative, stripped-down and show-stopping performances alongside folk legends like Rufus Wainwright, Nic Jones, Jackie Oates and the Mercurynominated Rachel Unthank and The Winterset.
Her solo album Inversions is where Belinda shines, showing off her composer and pianist prowess.
Drawing inspiration from the musical treasures passed down by generations of male musicians in the rugged hills of rural Ireland, she's breaking free from tradition.
Belinda is rewriting the musical story of her ancestors in her own unique style, flipping the script and creating something truly extraordinary – an inversion of the ordinary.
The concert on Friday, March 1 is at 7.30pm, doors open at 6.30pm.

There is a treat in store for jazz fans when the Clare Teal Duo play the venue on Saturday, May 11 at 7.30pm.
The duo will explore a rich, jazz-infused repertoire and celebrate giants of the Great American and British Songbooks as well as the odd surprise.
