Ladies Under-14s net top spot after 7-0 win at Poppleton

Scarboroug­h Ladies FC Under-14s returned to the top of the City of York Girls Football League table after a brilliant 7-0 win at Poppleton.

Boro started strong and it didn't take them long to score with great effort from Pippa Wedge.

Lay la Bin t added to her tally with a penalty and another fine effort, Isla Jones was next with a fantastic effort. Closing out the first half, Lauren Thompson's hard work paid off and she grab one making it 5-0 at half-time.

Scarboroug­h went into the second half with the girls trying out different positions and playing some great football.

Jones added her second and Olivia Smith scored as a 7-0 win too kB oro back to the top of the league.

Girl of the game went to Alice Wood, who played outstandin­g all game and was unlucky not to score. Scarboroug­h Ladies Under-18s lost 4-3 in a thriller at Wigginton.

The hosts took the lead after 15 minutes.

Boro came out stronger in the second half and equalised after 50 minutes as a freekick on the left that Wigginton couldn't clear giving Amelia Breckon time to net a leveller.

Seven minutes later the hosts regained the lead, but Boro took up the challenge and some lovely runs forward from Bailey Orrells on the right, the visitors put consistent pressure on Wigginton, and on 62 minutes Breckon hit her second.

Boro battled back but an own goal put Wiggy back in front.

The hosts added a fourth but the away team refused to buckle and brought it back to 4-3 in the 86th minute with player of the match Breckon outpacing the Wigginton defence, but the hosts hung on for the win. Scarboroug­h Ladies Under-12s lost out 3-0 at Bishopthor­pe White Rose Purple.

With less than a minute of the first half to go Borounfort­unate goal togo into the break 1-0 down.

Coming out for the second half Boro played some great football looking for the equaliser. Unfortunat­ely they were hit on the break twice while hittingthe wood work themselves on a number of occasions in a much-improved display. Scarboroug­h Ladies Under-16s lost 6-0 at home to Wigginton Grasshoppe­rs.

Three late goals made for a misleading scoreline, with Ruby Carney named as the girl of the game in a strong all-round team performanc­e from the home side.
