Tom too strong for Liverpool star Ellis
Scarborough Amateur Boxing Club's Tom Ledden continued his first season of competitive boxing at the John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield.
Ledden faced undefeated Liverpool boxer, Ellis Evans of the Knows leyVa le Boxing Club.
From the first bell the Scarborough youngster was on the front foot, immediately taking the fight to the taller Evans, switching angles to land shots to the head and body of a bewildered opponent.
To his credit the Liverpool boxer appeared to gather himself midway through the round as he tried to land some well timed uppercuts on the advancing Ledden. However, it was Ledden who finished the session the stronger, as he landed some eye-catching combinations to take the round.
Coming out for the second round it was obvious that Evans had been instructed to increasehis work rate, as he tried to force the pace and push Led den back. This forced the Scarborough boxer to demonstrate good footwork and head movement to evade punishment in a round that was perhaps narrowly shaded by the Liverpool fighter.
Into the third and final round and with everything at stake, both boxers were cheered on as they set about their work, in trying to impress the three scoring judges.
Heavy shots were thrown by both, but it was Led den who also appeared to have the better defence, as blows landed on his gloves or arms, allowing him the opportunity to land impressive counter punches in a highly competitive round.
As the final bell rang the crowd were joined by the referee in applauding the efforts of both boxers, before a split points decision was then awarded to Ledden.
