St Ronan’s Border Games Week and Cleikum Ceremonies, Innerleithen, July 14-21. Instituted in 1827, these games are the oldest organised sports meeting in Scotland and are now part of a 10-day festival that incorporates events for every age group.

National Bowling Championships, Northfield, Ayr, July 23-28.
The cream of Scotland’s lawn bowlers will compete at the National Centre of Bowling. Langholm Common Riding, July 27. Mounted processions and spectacular uphill gallop followed by horse racing, athletic games, Highland dancing and wrestling. Butefest, July 27-29. Line-up includes Dougie Maclean and Banshee mixed with food, drink and family fun.
