Beaver Warning

I read with interest the article Going On A Beaver Hunt in the November 2017 issue. I am a trapper in Northern Alberta, Canada, and trap many fur-bearing animals including beaver. In many areas in Alberta beaver have become over populated, flooding farm lands and cutting down acres of trees. Argentina introduced beavers years ago and they have wiped out large tracts of rainforest. There are no predators or trappers in Argentina to keep the beaver population in check, so they have a real problem. I’m not trying to discourage the introduction of beavers in Scotland, but I am saying that Scotland could end up with a real problem. Gordon Macleod, Alberta, by email
