FASCINATING FACTS

In 1941, an RAF Spitfire crash-landed in Sandwood. The engine can be seen in the sea when tide and weather allow. The 12.5km (8-mile) walk from Sandwood Bay northwards along the coast is the final stretch of the Cape Wrath Trail. The wider Sandwood Estate lies within a Special Area of Conservation, and is monitored by the John Muir Trust.
