Celebrating 80 In Style

-

THE Beano’s 80th edition was guest edited by number-one kids author David Walliams. His editor’s letter calls the comic “the best in the world” and says there will be a place for the Beano in the world as long as there are kids who like to laugh.

Walliams features in his own Beanotown cameo which appears throughout the comic. Mike says of the choice, “He’s a massive Beano fan. This shone through in the amazing work he created. Also, the regular team need a break from time to time!”

To mark the milestone in the Beano’s home city, Dundee’s Mcmanus Art Gallery & Museum is presenting Bash Street’s Back At The Mcmenace. The exhibition tells the story of the comic’s enduring success, from DC Thomson’s history to the birth of the first issue. The Bash Street Kids, with their characteristic humour, are a special focus of the exhibition.

Visitors can also view the mix of Beano merchandise which has gone on sale over the past eight decades. The exhibition runs until October 21 and it’s free.
